Pause the Check
A short wait between the urge to check on a health worry and the check. Offline, private, no account.
Searching a symptom again. Asking a chatbot the same question. Checking your body one more time. When a health worry pulls you to check, Pause the Check gives you a short wait first.
It is built around one self-help step: wait before you check. Checking is still your choice, and every finished wait counts.
What it does
- Press "I want to check" and, if you like, pick what the urge is: search, ask AI, body check, ask for reassurance or something else.
- A wait starts. Two minutes is the usual start, and you can begin with one. A setting sun shows the time passing.
- While it runs you can surf the urge, think about what you would tell a friend, or write the worry down for later.
- When the time is up, wait longer, say the urge passed, or check. After a few waits at one length, the app offers a slightly longer one. You decide.
- A weekly view shows how often the urge came, what kind it was and how many waits you finished. No streaks, no scores and no daily counter on the home screen.
- Write a worry down in one line and read your notes once, at a time you choose. The optional daily notification only ever says "Your notes are ready."
- Every screen has a "Need help now?" link to UK urgent care numbers and support lines. It is never timed and never logged.
- Everything you enter stays on your phone and is left out of cloud backups. No account, no ads, no analytics, no purchases and no internet access.
Pause the Check is a self-help practice tool. It can't tell you what a symptom means and does not try. It is not a medical device and does not diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any medical condition. For medical advice, talk to a doctor or another healthcare professional. If something is new, severe or getting worse, get medical help.
The help numbers in the app are UK numbers, so the app is for the UK only for now. If you live outside the UK, please use your local emergency number or a helpline near you.
